This time-saving Tech Tip demonstrates how to import multiple system speed dials in to the System Administrator at once.

This Tech Tip requires access to the phone system using NEC DSX System Administrator Software. To download the latest version of the DSX System Administrator or for instructions on how to connect your computer to the phone system, please read the following: How to Connect to the NEC DSX Phone System for Programming.
Programming Steps
IMPORTANT: Phone numbers must be in the following format (with dashes) or else the import won’t work.
Formatting example: 555-555-5555
Numbers cannot contain a pause [P] or flash [F] characters
Create an excel file
(the file extension MUST be .XLS – It will NOT work with .xlsx or .csv)
The excel document should be laid out as follows:
1 | John R. | 555-555-5550 |
2 | Mary P. | 555-555-5551 |
3 | Sue A. | 555-555-5552 |
4 | Walter W. | 555-555-5553 |
- Column 1 is the Bin Number (1-999)
- Column 2 is the Speed Dial Name (18 characters max)
- Column 3 is the Speed Dial Phone Number (16 digits max)
In the System Admin, go to System > Speed Dial
Click the Import Button on the top right of the screen
Navigate to the Excel file and click Open
If you first want to delete all of the speed dials currently in the phone system, click the Clear Button on the top right of the screen.
